mom.enough

Mother daughter roller set
I’ve been reading so much everywhere about this TIME article about attachment parenting that came with the tagline challenge of:
”are you mom enough?”

It stirred up thoughts inside of me… and I’m not even a mom yet.

Without even stepping foot in the role of motherhood yet, I am already well aware that it is a role that requires a constant pouring out of
energy, love, patience, responsibility, understanding, balance, time, sacrifice and wisdom.

This is all while maintaining many other roles in life that are equally as important.

In this day women have a mountain of expectations and standards shaping what their role as a woman, wife, and mother should be. There is an expectation to be perfect in ALL things and to all people.

Many women spend the majority of their day just trying to keep up, and then live in guilt for always feeling like they fell short. It’s deception and creates the perfect atmosphere to weaken and distract the foundation of the family unit.

So what I don’t understand is why any other woman would feed into judging and challenging any other woman about how she is handling the roles in her life, and for her family.

No two women share the same circumstances, dynamics, background, beliefs and resources. So a “style” of parenting cannot define your superiority or level of parenthood.

You are raising an individual with individual gifts and traits, within a household of individuals with individual gifts and traits. What might work for one, may not work for another.

I obviously have my own personal view on parenting style. Me and Kevin have had lengthy talks about that topic many times. But that’s for us to experiment with and experience. Nobody should ever push their style of parenting onto anyone as being what defines being a mom (or dad).

Parenthood is a personal adventure within a family. It requires God guiding you and pouring in wisdom and understanding from moment to moment about how to best love those around you that He trusted you to love as He would have.

Don’t waste any minute of this precious life judging or comparing, use those minutes to love instead.
